Control Systems Automation Specialist

Position Overview:
The Automation Engineer plays a crucial role in the full-scale deployment of automated control systems, which encompass various domains such as process control, factory automation, and SCADA systems for water and wastewater management, along with other digital control solutions.
Reporting Structure:
Reports directly to the Department Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and design engineering projects, ensuring compliance with established standards and quality benchmarks.
- Identify and address significant technical challenges and risks, providing necessary resources to overcome these hurdles.
- Oversee the engineering process and ensure the successful implementation of project objectives, promoting standardization in design and execution methods.
- Assist in resource quantification for specific projects and prepare relevant statements of work as needed.
- Design and implement cellular and RF communication networks tailored for SCADA systems and Remote Terminal Units (RTUs).
- Create software point/tag databases for automation projects.
- Collaborate with the graphics team and clients to develop required graphic interfaces.
- Develop and deploy PLC-based programs and other digital control systems for automation and data collection.
- Design Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications.
- Design control system circuits to fulfill automatic control sequences, safety functions, and operational requirements.
- Specify necessary hardware components for new or existing designs to meet project specifications.
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and prepare Operations & Maintenance Manuals as required.
- Support the training and onboarding of new Automation Engineers and technicians.
- Ensure compliance with internal documentation standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of five years in engineering, development, or related fields.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams on medium to large-scale projects.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, with keen attention to detail.
- Eight years of experience with various automation hardware, including PLCs, Direct Digital Controllers, and Distributed Control Systems.
- Eight years of experience with commercial SCADA or Building Automation software, including HMI software.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley and Modicon PLCs is advantageous.
- Certification or experience with Ignition or VTScada software is a plus.
- Intermediate knowledge of IT, networking, and server operating systems.
Valid Driver's License required.
Travel Requirements:
Occasional or extended travel may be necessary based on project needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
Errors:
Potential errors may lead to significant costs or inadequate production over time, impacting external relationships. Work involves a high degree of accuracy and responsibility.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical literature. Capable of responding to inquiries from customers and effectively presenting information to management.
Mathematical Skills:
Proficient in basic arithmetic operations and able to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
Computer Skills:
Familiarity with PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming software, as well as AutoCAD, SQL Database, Excel, and Word Processing software.
Confidential Data:
Handle confidential data related to significant projects and profit margins.
Security Clearance:
Must be able to pass a government background check for restricted area access.
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision.
Work Environment:
The work environment is typically quiet, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
