Job Title: Peer Support Specialist

Join Greater Mental Health of New York in promoting mental wellness through advocacy, community education, and direct services.

Job Summary:

The Peer Support Specialist provides opportunities for Medicaid beneficiaries with behavioral health conditions and substance use disorders to receive services in their own home or community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with participants to promote skills for coping with and managing behavioral health symptoms.
  • Conduct routine monitoring of patient experiences through assessments and engagement.
  • Document all client contacts within the electronic health records within a timely fashion.
  • Facilitate the utilization of natural resources and enhancement of recovery-oriented principles such as hope, self-efficacy, and community living skills.
  • Work a flexible weekly schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Certification as OMH established Certified Peer Specialist or OASAS Certified Peer (CRPA).
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • New York State Defensive Driving certification is required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must maintain pre-employment clearances by applicable regulatory clearances as required.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the United States.
Benefits:
  • $22-24 per hour, based on departmental budget, qualifications, experience, education, and licenses.
  • Subject to business needs, including hybrid options.
  • 25 days of PTO, 12 sick days, and 11 company-paid holidays per year (prorated for part-time staff).
