Position Overview

The Patient Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality care to patients within a healthcare setting. This position involves providing direct assistance to a specific group of patients, ensuring their comfort and well-being through various essential tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the admission and discharge processes for patients within the unit.
  • Builds positive relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Communicates vital information to the healthcare team as necessary.
  • Provides essential information to patients and their visitors.
  • Maintains effective communication with colleagues to support team dynamics.
  • Observes and reports significant changes in patient conditions to the healthcare team.
  • Delivers direct patient care as assigned for a designated group of patients.
  • Accurately measures and records patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, and pulse.
  • Alerts the Registered Nurse and healthcare team of any notable changes in patient status.
  • Responds promptly to patient requests and call lights.
  • Ensures a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and their families, adhering to established standards.
  • Participates as a team member during emergency situations under the guidance of supervisory staff.
  • Assists with the care of restrained patients in accordance with established protocols.
  • Provides basic wound care and assists with activities of daily living as appropriate.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics and equipment when assisting patients with mobility.
  • Performs delegated patient care tasks as directed.
  • Collects and labels specimens, and conducts specific diagnostic tests as instructed.
  • Conducts phlebotomy procedures as required.
  • Performs telemetry and electrocardiogram tasks as directed.
  • Applies clinical knowledge in managing patient care based on their diagnoses.
  • Undertakes related duties as necessary, with all responsibilities considered essential functions of the role.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience is required.
