Role Overview of Environmental Compliance Inspectors

Position Summary: Environmental Compliance Inspectors are responsible for examining and investigating pollution sources to safeguard public health and the environment while ensuring adherence to Federal, State, and local regulations.

Daily Responsibilities of an Environmental Compliance Inspector
  • Conduct laboratory analyses on collected samples, including assessing the composition of contaminated wastewater.
  • Educate health professionals, property owners, and the community regarding the detrimental effects and associated issues of water pollution and contaminated wastewater.
  • Generate comprehensive reports—written, oral, tabular, and graphical—that summarize regulatory requirements, enforcement actions, and chain of custody documentation.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of materials, worksites, and equipment.
  • Identify sites and violation reports for investigation, coordinating compliance and enforcement efforts with other governmental entities.
  • Review permits, licenses, applications, and records to verify compliance with regulatory requirements.
