Lead Immigration Counsel

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage a diverse caseload involving Affirmative Asylum and EOIR Removal Proceedings, which includes defensive asylum cases, appeals, motions to reopen and reconsider, and cancellation of removal.
- Formulate and execute initial case strategies by evaluating clients' backgrounds and applying relevant immigration laws and procedures.
- Identify and evaluate eligibility for non-asylum relief, including various USCIS applications.
- Review and authorize all petitions, motions, and other submissions prior to filing with courts or immigration agencies.
- Draft and submit case briefs and motions, encompassing protected grounds & nexus statements, BIA and 9th circuit briefs, motions to reopen, motions to reconsider, and eligibility briefs.
- Analyze criminal history charts and clients' criminal backgrounds, preparing necessary attorney declarations for motions to vacate.
- Prepare for and conduct Master Hearings, Individual Hearings, and other contested hearings, both in-person and via virtual platforms.
- Ensure compliance with all case deadlines and facilitate timely resolution of cases.
- Engage with clients to prepare them for court hearings, including comprehensive trial preparation.
- Lead a team of paralegals and legal assistants, providing legal guidance and support to ensure efficient case resolution.
- Deliver exceptional client service, ensuring client satisfaction throughout the case process.
- Active bar license in any US jurisdiction is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in EOIR immigration law.
- Experience with detained cases is preferred but not mandatory.
- Bilingual Spanish proficiency is preferred but not essential.
- Familiarity with EOIR court's ECAS, Webex, and other immigration software is essential.
- Comfortable managing a fully electronic caseload.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, initiative, problem-solving, and organizational skills are necessary.
