Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States Fable Therapeutics Full time

About Fable Therapeutics:

We are a discovery-stage biotechnology company that develops purpose-built biologics designed to overcome therapeutic index limitations and channel therapeutic response where and when it matters.

Our company is powered by state-of-the-art structure and sequence-based protein language models. Founded by leading ML scientists and veteran biotech entrepreneurs together with top-tier venture capital firms, we have recently initiated our internal therapeutic pipeline and have enacted a growing list of pharma research collaborations.

Backed by a $40M Series A investment co-led by Versant Ventures and DCVC, we are positioned to lead in the purposeful integration of biology and computation to solve complex medical challenges. Our aspiration is to write the next chapter of what protein-based therapeutics can do.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly talented and motivated scientist to join our growing team and establish our in-house protein conjugation capabilities. As an expert in biologics drug discovery, you will be primarily responsible for conjugation of antibodies and other protein-based candidate therapeutics from our bespoke AI designed libraries using a variety of chemistries and payloads.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to designing the ideal lab environment to support your protein conjugation workflows, including analytics and robotics/automation. The data you generate will be used to explore new concepts and to design potent therapeutic candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and evaluation of different linker/payload structures and methods of protein conjugation
  • Generation of antibody and other protein conjugates using a variety of chemistries and payloads, with opportunity to design and build the lab
  • Characterization of the protein conjugates in robust bioanalytical and in vitro assays
  • Use of liquid handlers and automation for high-throughput methods
  • Binding assays based on SPR, BLI and ELISA
  • Careful documentation and record-keeping of scientific results
  • Upload of data to databases and LIMS systems
  • Curation of data for ingestion and utilization by ML scientists
  • Mentoring and training of junior scientists

Requirements:

  • PhD/postdoc in Protein Engineering, Bioengineering, Protein Chemistry or similar field and 4+ years industry experience in biologics discovery and protein science OR MSc and 6+ years experience
  • Proven track record in Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs) and other protein conjugation technologies
  • Experience using various analytical instruments and methods (aSEC, aHIC, DSC, DSF, Mass Spectrometry, etc.) for the biophysical characterization of protein conjugates
  • Familiarity with liquid-handling and high-throughput systems
  • Committed to digital workflows and the lab of the future
  • Ability to work efficiently in a close-knit team and deliver high quality, reproducible data in a fast-paced environment
  • Attentive to detail and a careful experimenter
  • Ability to take initiative and improve processes
  • An excellent communicator and presenter of scientific data
  • Passionate about the power of AI to transform biotherapeutics
  • Focused on quantifiable results and data driven decisions
  • Collaborative and inclusive mindset

We are an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity and inclusion. We provide an open, collegial, and friendly work environment where we empower people and provide them with opportunities to develop their long-term careers. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender, age, physical or mental disability, or any other status protected under federal, state, or local law.
