Senior Research Scientist

Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute is a leading, independent biomedical research organization focused on deciphering human biology and disease, and driving scientific advancements that significantly enhance human health. Role Summary: The Staff Scientist will operate under limited supervision, executing responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor. This position is designed for professional development, allowing the Staff Scientist to assist in laboratory operations and experiments while advancing their own research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibit knowledge and eagerness to learn in order to progress projects effectively.
- Formulate hypotheses, design experimental protocols, analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and optimize methodologies.
- Analyze and interpret data from diverse sources, drawing relevant conclusions.
- Present findings at both internal and external scientific meetings.
- Maintain accurate documentation of experimental procedures.
- Contribute to the drafting of reports and manuscripts, assuming greater responsibility over time.
- Collaborate across various laboratory functions and mentor junior lab personnel as necessary.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in a biological science or related discipline, along with three years of post-Ph.D. experience, or a comparable combination of education and experience.

- Proven ability to conduct and publish research projects.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving capabilities.
- Exceptional skills in data presentation, verbal communication, and written documentation.
- Meticulous attention to detail, with strong analytical, time management, and interpersonal skills.

Supervisory Role: This position includes supervisory responsibilities, overseeing students in the laboratory.
Compensation: The anticipated salary for this role is $90,000.
