Reporting Structure: The successful candidate will report directly to the Global General Counsel and will be instrumental in crafting a strategic vision for PTC Therapeutics' intellectual property portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-level strategic counsel to executive leadership on intellectual property matters, encompassing risk evaluation, competitive insights, and portfolio assessment.
  • Oversee the enhancement and management of the company’s intellectual property strategy.
  • Lead and develop the intellectual property team, ensuring effective workflow and fostering professional growth among team members.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to prioritize and develop tools and processes that enhance the performance and governance of the intellectual property department.
  • Drive the assessment and adoption of digital solutions to streamline operations within the intellectual property function.
  • Design and implement various projects aimed at improving internal processes and collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Manage the budget and e-billing processes related to intellectual property.
  • Work closely with the Global General Counsel and Head of Legal Operations on critical operational projects.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies to identify opportunities and risks, recommending proactive strategies to safeguard our interests.
  • Ensure compliance with evolving intellectual property laws and regulations globally, adapting the company’s strategy as necessary.
  • Facilitate collaboration across cross-functional teams to integrate intellectual property considerations into product development and commercialization strategies.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and awareness regarding intellectual property throughout the organization, providing training and resources to enhance understanding of best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in managing patents and trademarks, particularly within publicly traded life sciences companies.
  • Admission to the Bar in at least one U.S. state, with eligibility for a limited in-house license in New Jersey.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field, along with registration as a Patent Attorney with the United States Patent & Trademark Office.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and respond adeptly to changes in the competitive and regulatory landscape.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, strong business acumen, and a commitment to ethical practices.
  • Highly organized, collaborative, and capable of managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with a knack for resolving complex issues creatively.
  • Familiarity with U.S. and international patent law, as well as experience in managing patent administration activities.
  • Experience in mergers and acquisitions and other strategic transactions is advantageous.
  • Experience in managing legal teams and supervising support staff, along with effective management of external legal resources.
  • Background in the sciences, particularly in chemistry or biology, is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
