Role Overview:

We are seeking a seasoned Hardware Domain-Specific Accelerator (DSA) Architect to spearhead our AI accelerator product initiatives. This pivotal role offers the chance to lead architectural advancements in a project of strategic importance.

In this position, you will utilize your expertise in aligning software algorithms with domain-specific hardware solutions, collaborating closely with the Ampere AI software team to define and refine the architecture for our AI offerings.

Your responsibilities will encompass:
  • Analyzing workload distribution, compute kernels, memory utilization, and data transfer.
  • Guiding critical decisions regarding task scheduling, optimal compute hardware sizing, cache structures, interconnectivity, virtual memory, I/O virtualization, and DMA architecture.
  • Providing technical direction to the hardware architecture and design teams, while offering constructive feedback to the software team to ensure the solution is optimized for intended workloads.

Key Contributions:

As a member of the Aurora team, you will:
  • Play a vital role in developing a revolutionary AI computing product that balances sustainability with performance, adaptable to various data center infrastructures.
  • Serve as a key technical authority on our AI product roadmap, leveraging your insights to shape architecture, assess trade-offs, and make essential decisions.
  • Collaborate with software teams and fellow hardware architects to determine how specific workloads will be allocated to domain-specific hardware functionalities, including host-device interfaces, data transfer, and execution pipelines for vector and matrix operations.
  • Define a versatile hardware architecture that meets performance benchmarks across diverse configurations and thermal design power (TDP) requirements.
  • Assist the driver team in establishing the host/device interface, including command structures and DMA engines.
  • Offer mentorship and guidance to other architects to ensure the product operates efficiently from end to end for the target workloads.
  • Engage in performance modeling and analysis of hardware tailored for specific workloads.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive product architecture specifications.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with 8 years of experience; or a PhD with 5 years of experience.
  • A strong understanding of AI algorithms and their compute and memory requirements.
  • Experience in architecting or designing high-performance domain-specific accelerators, particularly for AI or GPU applications.

Technical Expertise:

Familiarity with:
  • Cache-coherency protocols, cache architecture/design, and virtual memory architecture.
  • AMBA interface protocols, PCIe, and CXL protocols.
  • Implementing ARMv9, Nvidia, and/or AMD GPU ISAs, especially in relation to vector and matrix instructions and pipeline-based micro-architectures.
  • PCIe host/device interface models, I/O virtualization, and DMA engines.
  • Performance modeling, preferably in Python or C++.
