About Mexic-Arte Museum

Mexic-Arte Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to the presentation and interpretation of Mexican, Mexican American, and Latinx art and culture. Through the exhibition of traditional and contemporary artwork, the museum offers visitors an opportunity to engage with and learn about the history and artistic production of these multifaceted cultures.

The museum's educational programming is a key component of its mission, providing visitors with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the art and culture on display. The Education Curator plays a critical role in developing and implementing these programs, working closely with the Curatorial Department and other museum staff to create engaging and informative experiences for visitors of all ages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement educational programs for diverse audiences, including tours, family activities, adult programs, lectures, panel discussions, and workshops.
  • Collaborate with the Curatorial Department to develop educational components for exhibitions and special projects.
  • Translate written materials for exhibitions and educational programs from English to Spanish.
  • Manage and oversee the internship program, including recruitment, orientation, and evaluation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with educational partners and allied professionals.
  • Assist in the planning of school programs based on exhibitions and partnerships.
  • Develop curriculum for art education outreach programming for K-12 students in Austin area schools and for young museum visitors.
  • Implement tours, Family Days, summer camp exhibits, artist workshops in schools, and other educational programs.
  • Assist with special events and staffing, and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in art history, arts education, museum studies, or related field.
  • Working knowledge of modern and contemporary art, Latinx art, history, and culture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to obtain Texas Background Check approval and valid TX Driver's license.
  • Effective time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
