Community Options, Inc. is a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential services to individuals with disabilities across multiple states.

We are currently looking for an Employment Support Specialist to join our team. This role involves mentoring and guiding adults with special needs in developing the necessary skills for effective job performance, daily routines, and personal life activities that are vital for achieving successful employment outcomes. The Employment Support Specialist will implement best practices and utilize technology within a community-focused employment framework.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate the necessary support for consumers to secure and sustain competitive employment.
  • Instruct consumers in independent job skills through job task analysis and tailored support, including assistive technology.
  • Assist consumers in enhancing essential skills, such as resume building, job interview techniques, and job application processes.
  • Collaborate with consumers on-site to assess job requirements and break them down into teachable components.
  • Complete any outstanding tasks for consumers during initial training phases.
  • Proactively identify and address potential issues before they escalate into crises for consumers, employers, and coworkers.
  • Foster a supportive network between consumers and community members.
  • Communicate consumer progress effectively to employers and support personnel, including family and other professionals.
  • Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation.
  • Participate in training sessions, conferences, and seminars as required.
  • Cooperate with regulatory staff during inspections and inquiries.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of full-time experience in employment services or a related field.
  • Successful completion of required training programs.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding of employer expectations and the local job market.
  • Ability to analyze job tasks and decompose them into manageable segments.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgment in crisis situations.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of interacting professionally with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Creative problem-solving skills within the agency and community context.
  • Capacity to build trusting relationships with consumers.
  • Proficient in reading and writing English.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
Working Conditions:
  • Regular physical activity, including lifting and positioning of consumers or equipment.
  • Travel required, utilizing personal vehicle, with exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Potential transportation of participants in personal vehicle.
  • Occasional assistance with wheelchair transfers for non-ambulatory participants.
  • Exposure to various medical conditions and communicable diseases may occur.
  • Work will be conducted in administrative offices, community settings, and homes.
  • Flexible scheduling based on consumer needs and supervisory direction.
  • Occasional overtime may be necessary.
