With 15 specialties and 33 operating rooms, our dedicated Surgical Technologist Educators are eager to assist you in exploring the diverse opportunities available.

The UVA Medical Center is in search of both seasoned Surgical Technologists and new graduates, as well as those currently enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technologist Training Program, to become part of our esteemed interdisciplinary team.

Here, you will collaborate with nationally recognized physicians, nurses, surgeons, and specialists known for their commitment to quality care, positive outcomes, innovative treatments, and research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather necessary supplies and instruments for surgical procedures based on surgeon preference cards.
  • Maintain a sterile environment and anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
  • Ensure adherence to aseptic techniques by all team members.

Demonstrate foundational surgical case preparation by reviewing preference cards and assembling necessary instruments and supplies for general surgical procedures.

Provide safe patient care at a fundamental level, showcasing principles of aseptic technique and sterile conscience.

Possess basic knowledge of surgical procedures and patient anatomy, while maintaining awareness of environmental safety practices for yourself and the team.

Eligibility to take the specialty certification exam upon completion of an accredited surgical technology program.

Position Compensation Range: $32.05 Hourly

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, with graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist Training Program.
  • Licensure: Current Registration with the Virginia Board of Medicine required at the time of hire.
  • BLS Certification: Required.
  • Experience: No prior experience necessary.

Physical Demands: This position requires prolonged standing, repetitive motions such as passing instruments, and lifting heavy instrument sets. Proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills are essential, along with attention to detail and the ability to write legibly. Candidates must be able to lift, push, or pull weights exceeding specified limits and may be exposed to cold, radiation, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases.
