- Exhibits fundamental surgical case readiness by arranging and prioritizing patient care tasks in partnership with the interdisciplinary team under the guidance of the circulating nurse.
- Distinguishes between sterile and non-sterile items processed through various sterilization techniques.
- Applies principles of aseptic technique and maintains a sterile conscience.
- Possesses a solid understanding of surgical procedures.
- Maintains awareness of safety practices for self and team members at all times.
- Facilitates operating room protocols.
- Communicates effectively with colleagues and clients, taking responsibility for personal and professional growth in accordance with departmental policies.
- Demonstrates leadership in the provision of technical patient care.
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent is required. Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Training Program is mandatory.
Experience: No prior experience is necessary. Relevant experience is preferred.
Licensure: Certification to practice as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA or NCCT is required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification is mandatory. Current registration with the Virginia Board of Medicine is required at the time of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This role requires standing for extended periods; repetitive actions such as passing instruments and lifting heavy instrument sets. Strong communicative, auditory, and visual skills are essential; attention to detail and the ability to write clearly are necessary; capacity to lift/push/pull over 100 lbs. May encounter cold environments, radiation, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases.
