Overview
This role is situated within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), specifically within the National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP).

Key Responsibilities
As an Information Technology Analyst, your duties will encompass the following:
- Administering and managing all hardware and software systems for the National Weather Service, with a focus on Linux and related technologies.
- Offering application and program support to subject matter experts by executing installation, configuration, and maintenance of both new and existing software applications.
- Collaborating with management and users to enhance awareness, foster consensus, and provide support for issue resolution through effective communication, technical assistance, and comprehensive documentation aimed at achieving system-wide alignment and bolstering system security and operational reliability.
- Assessing organizational data requirements and engaging in strategic discussions with Center management.

Employment Conditions
Essential Requirements:
- Applicants must be U.S. Citizens. Eligibility for Federal employment will be determined through a background investigation. Additional requirements are outlined in the Qualifications and Other Information section. Registration for Selective Service is mandatory, if applicable. A probationary period may be necessary. Relocation expenses and incentives may be authorized. This position is part of a bargaining unit and is covered by NWSEO 1538. A background investigation is required for this role, and continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of this investigation.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. This experience should encompass:

  • Providing program support for software installations, network management, and IT security.
  • Maintaining software systems.
  • Implementing strategies for IT systems and programs.

To qualify at the GS-12 level:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service is required.

To qualify at the GS-13 level:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service is required.

Additional Information
For candidates eligible under CTAP and ICTAP, documentation proving that they have surpassed the minimum qualifications for the position is necessary. This includes a copy of the specific RIF notice, performance appraisal, and any relevant documentation from the agency regarding current promotion potential.
