Position Overview:
The University of Maryland Division of Information Technology (DIT) is in search of a Lead IT Desktop System Analyst to become a vital member of our Platform Services team.
Role Summary:
As part of the Enterprise Desktop team, the Lead IT Desktop System Analyst contributes to the ongoing enhancement of the workstation computing environment. This role is crucial in the technical execution of workstation endpoint management, application deployment, updates, and asset oversight. The primary responsibility of this position is to deliver support for our Windows and Mac operating systems endpoints.
Essential Qualifications:
Education:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Relevant work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
Experience:
A minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in supporting the operations, maintenance, and administration of information technology infrastructure.
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor communication style to various audiences.
- Capacity to independently prioritize and execute advanced support and feature requests in areas of expertise.
- Proficient in overseeing IT projects and guiding team members, focusing on the execution and delivery of technical initiatives.
- Ability to lead presentations and training sessions for large groups.
- Proven ability to quickly learn new technologies, reaching the level of subject matter expert.
- Competent in organizing and providing significant mentorship to project team members.
- Skilled in resolving complex problems both independently and collaboratively.
- A demonstrated commitment to customer service and effective stakeholder management.
- Provides leadership and bridges communication between team management and team members on technical matters.
- Capable of effectively managing workload and delivering assignments punctually.
- Proficient in using office productivity software such as Office 365 or Google Workspaces.
- Subject matter expert in at least two (2) technical domains.
- Valid driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in deploying, integrating, configuring, and securing Microsoft Windows Desktop and Mac operating systems in both Active Directory and standalone environments, as well as hybrid settings (on-premises and cloud-based).
- In-depth knowledge of the Mac operating system, JAMF, and Mac scripting.
- Experience in automating processes using programming or scripting languages for desktop management.
- Experience in systems planning and development, including new features in Windows Desktop & Mac operating systems, and the ability to deploy new applications and services.
- Familiarity with patch management and the development of application deployment packages, including scripting, application re-packaging, and automated deployment/remediation.
- Knowledge of MacOS, JAMF, VDI, scripting, BitLocker, Microsoft Azure, InTune, Office 365, OMS, and Amazon Web Services.
- CompTIA A+ Certification.
- Jamf certification.
- Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA).

Physical Demands:
- Primarily operates in an office environment, with some time spent in computer rooms for installation, testing, and troubleshooting. Minimal work (less than 5%) may involve moving and lifting server equipment.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
- This position is considered essential and may necessitate working at the normal work location or an alternative location during significant catastrophic events, weather emergencies, or other operational emergencies to ensure continuity of services.
