Senior Network Solutions Engineer

Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Solutions Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and architecting Cisco ACI solutions tailored to meet both business and technical requirements. This role requires a deep understanding of data center networking principles, application needs, and security protocols. Responsibilities include deploying Cisco ACI fabric and related networking components such as spine switches, leaf switches, and APIC controllers, while ensuring seamless integration with existing network infrastructure.

Key tasks involve configuring ACI policies, tenant networking, VLANs, VXLANs, access policies, and Quality of Service (QoS) settings. The engineer will also be responsible for optimizing network performance and resolving connectivity challenges. Utilizing automation tools (including Python scripts, Ansible, or Cisco's APIC API) to enhance provisioning, configuration, and management tasks within the ACI fabric is essential.

Monitoring the health and performance of the ACI fabric using tools like Cisco APIC, telemetry data, and syslog is a critical aspect of this role. The engineer will troubleshoot network issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions. Additionally, the implementation of security policies within the ACI fabric is necessary to ensure compliance with organizational security standards and regulatory mandates.

Documentation of network designs, configurations, procedures, and changes is required, along with generating reports on network performance, capacity planning, and infrastructure health. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including network operations, security, and application teams, is vital to support their requirements and resolve issues. Staying current with advancements in Cisco ACI technology through training and self-study is expected, as well as mentoring junior team members.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Required Skills:

  • Security Clearance: Active Secret (TS/SCI preferred)
  • IAT II / Baseline Certification Security+ or equivalent
  • Proficient understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals (e.g., DNS, FTP, SSH, ACL, VLAN, DMZ, BGP), general networking technologies, and network architecture troubleshooting
  • Ability to articulate and troubleshoot routing and switching challenges
  • Advanced level experience in network design, engineering, and implementation
  • Capability to create network-related Rough Order Magnitude (ROM) equipment lists and cost estimates
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective negotiation of priorities
  • Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as necessary
  • Self-sufficient with minimal direction and guidance
  • 5 years of relevant technical experience in Network and Transport technologies, tools, and techniques
  • Over 5 years of experience with large-scale enterprise/global networks in a dynamic environment
  • Familiarity with the DoD Architecture Framework and key DoD network architecture and strategic planning guidelines
  • Extensive experience in packet capture analysis or using Wireshark is highly desirable.
  • Review and/or approve Network engineering documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Establish and adhere to formal procedures for coordinating Network integration activities among multiple teams
  • Document all interface designs in a standardized format and maintain interface data in an accessible repository

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Cisco Certified CCNA, CCNP, CCDP (or equivalent).
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting Cisco ACI-based networks.
  • Ability to manage and support the Cisco ISE solution across the organization
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate ISE with other network components

Additional Information:

  • Position may require physical activities such as lifting IT hardware and reaching/bending/kneeling.
  • Travel may be necessary to fulfill mission requirements.
