Role Summary:
The Senior Systems Engineer for Student Information Solutions (SIS) is crucial in the architecture, development, deployment, and upkeep of SIS systems. This role is designed to facilitate key strategic and operational projects by ensuring that the requirements of end-users for SIS systems are fulfilled. You will lead project teams and work in close collaboration with both technical teams and business stakeholders. The Senior Systems Engineer must adeptly navigate the complex intersection of technology and business, merging technical know-how with business-oriented skills to guarantee the effective daily operation of the SIS platform. Participation in Architecture and Vision sessions will be essential to influence the roadmap, features, and capabilities necessary for the organization to meet its objectives.

Responsibilities:
  1. **Technical Solutions Development:** Oversee a team to conceptualize, create, and sustain technical solutions that address business requirements utilizing workflows, SQL, SSRS, and bespoke coding.
  2. **Problem Solving:** Collaborate with business partners to comprehend and resolve business challenges efficiently. Drive issue resolution to completion with thorough root cause analysis, ensuring that solutions fully address the problems.
  3. **Architectural Guidance:** Partner with other IT divisions to guarantee that new solutions are crafted using architectural best practices, reducing technical debt, and exploring integration possibilities with other systems.
  4. **Stakeholder Engagement:** Maintain clear communication with stakeholders, including customer support for existing tools and integrations with vendor solutions.
  5. **Configuration Oversight:** Actively participate in and meticulously test the configuration of business rules, new programs/courses, financial aid, and user permissions.
  6. **Documentation Creation:** Develop comprehensive documentation for new processes and technical solutions, ensuring it encompasses architectural details and any integrations involved.
  7. **Vendor Relations:** Manage communications with vendors and cultivate strong partnerships with third-party providers associated with the SIS platform and its integrated applications.
  8. **Additional Responsibilities:** Undertake other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems configuration, analysis, and solution development.
  • 5+ years of experience in educational technology, preferably in higher education.
  • 5+ years of experience across various functional areas such as Academics, Marketing, Advising, Finance, etc.
  • 5+ years of experience with ERP/SIS systems, particularly Anthology Student.
  • Familiarity with web services APIs.
  • Proficiency in MSSQL.
  • Experience with SSRS.
  • Knowledge of cloud services such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • Skills: sound judgment, decision-making, influencing, organization, adaptability, service orientation, interpersonal skills, leadership, and teamwork.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Basic computer literacy to effectively utilize necessary technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree or equivalent work experience, particularly in an IT-related field.
  • 8+ years of experience and/or advanced proficiency in the required skills.
  • Experience with LMS systems such as Brightspace/D2L, especially from an integration standpoint.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools like Microsoft Teams.
  • Additional skills: business acumen, cost awareness, integrity, strategic thinking, follow-through, vision, and complex problem-solving.
Compliance Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations, including those set by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations, and internal policies.
  • Effectively communicate compliance requirements to staff as appropriate and promptly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
