Job Title: Backend Python Engineer

Location: Cambridge, MA

Duration: 5 months contract

Job Overview: Backend Python Engineer (W2 Only)

Key Responsibilities:


• Develop and implement production-grade systems tailored for scientific professionals who demand excellence in quality, speed, performance, and dependability.


• Design and advocate for interoperable systems, facilitating the effective reuse of software and data across various platforms within the organization.


• Incorporate best practices in data engineering into scientific teams and motivate peers within the engineering sector to adopt these methodologies.


• Uphold adherence to global Information Security and Quality protocols for all products and services offered by the company.


• If relevant, ensure compliance with Regulatory standards (e.g., GLP & GCP) for GxP products and services.

Experience Requirements (Core Skills and Competencies):


• Proven experience in developing commercial-grade cloud solutions at scale utilizing cutting-edge technologies.


• Proficiency in programming for scalable data processing frameworks, including data ingestion, modeling, extraction, and management systems.


• Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a high-achieving engineering team.


• Passion for the intersection of life sciences and computer science.


• Strong interpersonal skills with the capability to communicate efficiently in a matrixed environment.


• Experience in delivering software products through various Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies and product-driven strategies.


• Self-motivated and adept at thriving in a fast-paced environment.

Specific Skills Required for This Role:


• Advanced Python programming skills for backend development, with familiarity in libraries such as Pandas, Numpy, and SQLAlchemy.


• Demonstrated experience in constructing data pipelines using workflow management frameworks (e.g., Airflow).


• Experience in developing highly concurrent backend systems capable of processing large data volumes in High-Performance Computing (HPC) and AWS environments (e.g., AWSBatch, Parallel Cluster).


• Some background in database application development (preferably Oracle and certain Big Data systems).


• Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Singularity) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices.

Educational and Qualification Requirements:


• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

At least 3 years of relevant experience is required.
