Credentials:
Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certification with endorsements for the relevant grade/subject area.

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related discipline from an accredited institution recognized by the State Board of Education.

  • Master's Degree is preferred.

Training or Experience Required:
Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the appropriate grade level is preferred.

182 days (+ New Teacher Induction week for new educators)

Position Purpose

  • Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to enhance students' comprehension of global cultures and cultural evolution; to cultivate skills in researching social structures; and to develop an understanding of the significance of geographical, historical, cultural, and political factors that shape the development of global societies, socioeconomic systems, and political frameworks, as well as their interconnections and interdependencies.
  • To promote an understanding and appreciation of global cultures, languages, racial, ethnic, and religious groups, and political systems.

Essential Functions

  • Designs and implements Social Studies curriculum aligned with district goals and objectives.
  • Creates lesson plans and instructional materials, transforming them into engaging learning experiences that challenge students and optimize instructional time.
  • Instructs students in social studies, integrating history, geography, economics, political science, governance systems, civic responsibility, and humanities.
  • Enhances students' understanding of diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and political groups and their cultural norms, as well as socioeconomic factors influencing human rights and freedoms.
  • Encourages awareness of the continuity and patterns of human behavior throughout history, and the complexity and interrelationship of local, state, national, and global issues and their potential solutions.
  • Illustrates how historical contexts provide a comparative basis for evaluating current issues and predicting future actions, with continuous reference to contemporary matters of significance.
  • Develops students' research capabilities, interpersonal skills, and critical thinking through various reading, writing, group discussions, and presentations to foster independence in problem-solving and conclusion-drawing.
  • Promotes critical analysis of media influence on information dissemination and public discourse, encouraging students to seek and compare diverse information sources regarding key global issues.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments of student learning and progress, adapting instructional methods to meet individual student needs, including those with special requirements; provides individual and small group instruction as necessary.
  • Continuously seeks professional development and stays informed of current trends in education by attending workshops, seminars, or conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains accurate records for student activities, achievements, and attendance as mandated by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and their families.
  • Maintains student conduct in accordance with school standards and district policies, establishing a conducive learning environment in the classroom.
  • Collaborates with fellow staff members, particularly within the grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requests appropriate educational materials and resources, maintaining inventory records.

Additional Duties

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other designated central office administrators.

  • Travels to district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

  • Knowledge of contemporary teaching methodologies and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on diverse student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of world history across various subtopics, including history, geography, sociology, economics, political science, governance systems, civic responsibility, anthropology, and humanities.
  • Awareness of major historical challenges and their solutions.
  • Proficiency in data information systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
  • Familiarity with applicable federal and state education laws.
  • Ability to utilize computer networks and software applications as needed.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Effective communication skills with students and parents.
  • Commitment to self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues.
