Job Overview

TX-STAR Speech Language Services is seeking a highly skilled Deaf Education Specialist to provide instructional support to students identified as deaf or hard-of-hearing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education and experience working with students with hearing loss.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional support to students with hearing loss to ensure a quality educational program.
  • Collaborate with campus teachers to develop and implement individualized education plans.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of various types of hearing loss, communication needs, and adaptive/assistive devices and equipment.
  • Participate in the ARD process and contribute to the development of student IEPs.
  • Work cooperatively with campus staff to ensure that students with hearing loss are able to participate in classroom activities with necessary accommodations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college/university.
  • Experience working with students with hearing loss.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate as a teacher of the deaf/hard-of-hearing or teacher of students with auditory impairments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of sign language and ability to instruct students to speak/understand sign language.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction at all grade levels.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with campus staff to ensure that students with hearing loss are able to participate in classroom activities with necessary accommodations.
