Staten Island, New York, United States Center for Justice Innovation Full time
Position Overview

About the Organization

The Center for Justice Innovation is a non-profit entity dedicated to collaborating with communities and justice systems to promote fairness, enhance safety, and support individuals and communities in flourishing. The organization aims to identify and address the issues that lead individuals into the criminal and civil legal systems as early as possible. This is achieved through various methods, including the development and implementation of programs that minimize the necessity for incarceration and foster economic opportunities, conducting original research to ascertain effective practices, and disseminating insights gained from both programming and research to those aiming to reform the justice system globally.

The Center operates with a workforce of 800 employees and an annual budget of $100 million, executing its mission through three core areas: creating and scaling operational programs to test innovative solutions, conducting original research to evaluate effectiveness, and offering expert assistance and policy guidance to justice reform advocates worldwide.

About the Opportunity

The Staten Island Justice Center (SIJC) is focused on transforming the criminal court experience in Staten Island, New York, by offering judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to traditional punitive measures such as bail, fines, and incarceration. SIJC comprises a multidisciplinary team of social service professionals, court-based resource coordinators, mental health experts, compliance specialists, and others committed to enhancing the quality of justice. The Supervised Release Program (SRP) provides an alternative to incarceration by offering pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to individuals charged with various offenses, utilizing an arrest as a pivotal moment for positive change in participants' lives.

SIJC is seeking Case Managers for the borough's Supervised Release Program. Reporting to Supervising Case Managers, these professionals will play a crucial role in service delivery and ensuring the program fulfills its objectives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing SRP participants based on their assigned tier and level, ensuring respectful and dignified treatment during check-ins.
  • Collaborating with participants to identify and overcome barriers to compliance and court attendance.
  • Conducting outreach to participants, court stakeholders, community service providers, and collateral contacts.
  • Connecting participants with appropriate community services to support their stabilization.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely documentation and reporting on participants' compliance with program requirements.
  • Co-facilitating pro-social and psycho-educational group sessions.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree and two years of direct practice experience, or a high school diploma with six years of relevant experience.
  • A Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Forensic Psychology is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience in pretrial, court-based, or criminal legal systems is strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in specialized service provision, such as substance use treatment or mental health services.
  • Proficiency in trauma-informed and strength-based approaches.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
  • Professional demeanor and capability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Bilingual abilities (English-Spanish) are preferred.

Position Type: Full-time, in-person work required, with potential weekend and evening hours.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package.

The Center for Justice Innovation is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
