Job Overview

The Gateway Flight Control Systems Engineer will contribute to the JETS II initiative, focusing on advanced space system design and performance in a collaborative environment.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct and present architectural trade studies and analyses that impact the overall design and efficiency of systems.
  • Decompose requirements and formulate specifications for level 3 (Habitation and Logistics module).
  • Create verification and validation strategies and documentation.
  • Draft interface control documents.
  • Review and provide insights on program documentation.
  • Assist in assessments of crew equipment, including stowage solutions and inventory management.
  • Engage with Gateway Program management and senior engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with other gateway system management teams, including power and life support systems.
  • Coordinate with related programs, such as Orion and the Human Lander System.
  • Work within a team structure, reporting to the team lead regarding progress and challenges.
  • May participate in various Advanced Exploration System (AES) Logistics Reduction projects, including innovative clothing technologies and autonomous inventory management.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in developing space systems requirements documents, including functional requirements and verification criteria.
  • Familiarity with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space systems, particularly in habitation.
  • Basic understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware domain, including mechanical and electrical design.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Johnson Space Center (JSC) operations and protocols.
  • Experience with spacecraft habitation systems.
  • Proficiency in model-based systems engineering (MBSE).
  • Understanding of systems engineering methodologies and techniques.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position is primarily onsite.
  • Offers a 9/80 work schedule, providing every other Friday off.
  • Some travel may be required.

BACKGROUND CHECKS:

All employees must successfully complete a national agency check; certain roles may necessitate a security clearance and extensive background verification.

All employees must pass a pre-employment drug screening; some positions require participation in random drug and alcohol testing programs.
