Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Senior Financial Analyst will assess the effects of Sales and Operating Expenses on the revenue streams of Macon Water Authority, both for residential and commercial sectors. This role involves developing forecasts, budgets, and strategic long-term plans. The analyst will compute financial projections and evaluate monthly performance against revenue targets, with a focus on key revenue and expense factors such as rates, adjustments, customer volumes, and service offerings (water & sewer). This position serves as the head of the organization's Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function, acting as a budget analyst, developer, and key liaison with department leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze extensive data sets to create and refine financial models and reports.
  • Prepare forecasts, budgets, and long-term strategies to estimate revenues.
  • Conduct financial assessments against established budgets/forecasts and identify emerging financial trends, communicating these insights to both departmental and financial leadership.
  • Evaluate the effects of rate changes on revenues to ensure alignment with financial and operational objectives.
  • Collaborate with department heads to provide forecasting tools and reporting mechanisms to manage revenues, expenses, and capital investments.
  • Work alongside managers and analysts from other departments to develop assumptions utilized in financial modeling.
  • Oversee the budget development for three distinct entities.
  • Engage in the formulation of long-term plans, budgets, forecasts, and proformas.
  • Play a pivotal role in rate analysis, recommending rate structures and adjustments.
  • Analyze key performance indicators and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Employ sophisticated financial modeling techniques to assist in shaping the organization's financial strategy.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a relevant field (Finance, Accounting, or Business); 3 years of experience is acceptable if the candidate holds a relevant advanced degree.
  • Proficient in advanced financial modeling, ideally with experience in modeling revenue and expenses within a utility context.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or a related discipline.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Access.
  • Possession of a valid GA Driver's License with a clean driving record.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, or balancing.
  • Ability to lift, pull, and push up to 40 pounds to waist level.
  • Capable of using hands for grasping, writing, drawing, and operating office equipment.
