Summary
The Financial Analyst plays a crucial role in the management of public sector financial records by employing established accounting principles and methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
The following tasks represent the core responsibilities of this position. These duties are not exhaustive and may include additional tasks as assigned.
- Oversees the general ledger, executes and records entries, prepares monthly journal vouchers, reviews financial statements, and manages year-end closing processes.
- Conducts account reconciliations and handles complex financial transactions.
- Performs monthly bank reconciliations and records necessary adjusting journal entries.
- Manages monthly investment reconciliations and updates the Unclaimed Property Report regularly.
- Conducts weekly reconciliations for inter-fund transfers and posts journal entries accordingly.
- Performs monthly reconciliations for inventory accounts and documents journal entries.
- Updates records for capital asset transactions (Land, Buildings, Vehicles, Machinery, and Equipment) and posts relevant journal entries.
- Handles monthly reconciliations for purchasing cards and documents journal entries.
- Manages Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll reconciliations, ensuring accurate journal entries.
- Prepares financial reports as requested by governmental and external agencies.
- Compiles grant reports for reimbursement and maintains compliance with Federal and State regulations.
- Assists both internal and external auditors by providing necessary data and reports for audit completion.
- Analyzes general ledger accounts for discrepancies and incorrect entries.
- Supports the review and processing of specific disbursements.
- Maintains effective working relationships with various departments, agencies, colleagues, and the public.
- Undertakes additional tasks as required.
The Financial Analyst should possess, at a minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; relevant experience in accounting is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Travel:
Occasional travel may be required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The Financial Analyst must be well-versed in the following principles, procedures, and concepts:
- Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles and practices, particularly in governmental accounting.
- Ability to verify and reconcile accounts against the general ledger.
- Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal financial regulations.
- Understanding of research methods, statistical analysis, and report generation.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and organize tasks; set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with all organizational levels.
- Proficiency in using personal computers and relevant office software.
- Capability to resolve issues in a timely and efficient manner.
