Job Title: Residential Instructor

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Residential Instructor to join our team at Alternative Services-Connecticut Inc. As a Residential Instructor, you will play a vital role in providing support and care to individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential setting.

Job Summary:

The Residential Instructor is responsible for ensuring the daily well-being and safety of consumers in our care. This includes monitoring consumer behavior, implementing behavior management programs, and documenting all activities and incidents. You will also be responsible for providing programmatic and statistical reports, maintaining a safe and clean living environment, and adhering to all Agency policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Monitor consumer behavior and implement behavior management programs as needed.
  2. Document all activities and incidents, including consumer behavior, medication administration, and any notable changes in consumer conduct.
  3. Provide programmatic and statistical reports as required.
  4. Maintain a safe and clean living environment, including conducting sanitation and safety inspections and making minor repairs as needed.
  5. Assist with medication administration, including distributing medications according to each consumer's medication schedule and DDS Medication Certification guidelines.
  6. Provide activities and programs for consumers, including organizing, supervising, and interacting with consumers from home and other group homes as needed.
  7. Assist with counseling and reinforcement of assigned consumers to address issues of progress, problems, interests, etc.
  8. Assist with supervising and safely transporting residents to community activities, day programs, social events, etc.
  9. Know and follow emergency home procedures for fire, hurricanes, power outages, accidents, or other serious incidents affecting residents.
  10. Report and respond to any violation of individuals' rights directly to the Executive Director or designee.
  11. Assist with shopping, meal preparation, set-up, and clean-up when on duty.
  12. Attend in-service training, seminars, or other opportunities for professional development as made available by the Agency.
Requirements:
  • Minimum possession of a High School Diploma or a G.E.D.
  • Minimum two years experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or that are dually diagnosed.
  • Valid drivers license and the ability to be insured by our insurance company throughout employment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, PMT, and DDS State Medication Administration.
  • The ability to lift up to 75 pounds, transfer, and physically intervene with individuals as required.
Accountability:

The Residential Instructor is directly accountable to the Residential Manager or said other person as may be substituted for the Residential Manager.

Evaluations:

The Residential Instructor is evaluated by the Residential Manager, three (3) months and six (6) months from date in position and annually thereafter.
