Job Title: Residential Instructor

Job Summary:

The Residential Instructor is a vital member of our team at Alternative Services - Connecticut, Inc. This role is responsible for providing daily care and supervision to individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring their safety, well-being, and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and document consumer behavior, implementing behavior management programs as needed.
  • Provide programmatic and statistical reports to management.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and healthy environment in the home.
  • Assist with medication administration, following DDS Medication Certification guidelines and Agency policies.
  • Develop and implement activities and programs for consumers, promoting socialization, education, and personal growth.
  • Provide counseling and reinforcement to assigned consumers, addressing issues related to progress, problems, and interests.
  • Supervise and safely transport residents to community activities, day programs, and social events.
  • Collaborate with guardians, parents, and other stakeholders to implement normalization and person-centered planning principles.
  • Report and respond to any violations of individuals' rights, participating in investigations as directed.
  • Assist with household tasks, including shopping, meal preparation, and clean-up.
  • Attend in-service training, seminars, and other professional development opportunities, providing training for Agency personnel as required.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum two years experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnosis.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by our insurance company.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, PMT, and DDS State Medication Administration.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and physically intervene with individuals as required.

Accountability:

The Residential Instructor is directly accountable to the Residential Manager or designated supervisor.
