The role involves diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, replacing, adjusting, and modifying company vehicles, including vans, pick-up trucks, tractors, trailers, and various refrigeration and temperature control systems. This includes structural metal repairs and painting of vehicles, as well as executing road service and preventative maintenance tasks in both emergency and routine situations, ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards. The position may also include mentoring Fleet Helpers and requires professional communication and interaction with colleagues to ensure accurate and timely responses to inquiries. Team collaboration within the department and organization is essential, along with the flexibility to perform any assigned duties that best serve the company.

Key Responsibilities:Review the work schedule, conduct safety inspections on equipment, gather necessary supplies, and prepare for operations. Utilize preventative maintenance schedules, checklists, manuals, diagrams, specifications, and vehicle files.Conduct regular inspections of tractors, complete necessary checklists, troubleshoot issues, and perform routine repairs. Undertake major repairs on tractors and trailers, including disassembly, removal, repair, or replacement of defective components in gas or diesel engines, transmissions, steering systems, ignition, electrical and hydraulic systems, air conditioning, refrigeration controls, clutches, brakes, and other mechanical or electrical units.Service and repair refrigeration units, fix engine issues, address leaks, replace tubing, condensers, thermal controls, and recharge units with approved refrigerant.Perform brake maintenance, tire changes, battery recharges, tire rotations, and conduct comprehensive diagnostics or overhauls of engines, front ends, and transmissions as needed. Prepare undercarriages for repainting; clean, chip, wire brush, remove wheels, and apply primer and finish coats, as well as clean, mask, and paint wheel rims.Repair internal and external damage to trailers, create sheet aluminum patches, drill and rivet in place, fix door frames, attach gaskets, and repair or install grab bars, reflectors, decals, and other graphics, as well as rebuild 5th wheels and replace worn parts.Utilize electric arc welding equipment to repair ramps, ladders, and tripods, or to construct new cargo bars.Make road service trips, maintain required logs, records, checklists, and reports, and keep garage tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized.Perform other related tasks as assigned or directed. At the end of the shift, secure all equipment, conduct general housekeeping duties, and complete all necessary paperwork.Carry out additional related duties as assigned.
