As a Client Support Specialist, you will play a crucial role in addressing customer service inquiries throughout the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) network. You will be responsible for resolving issues through various communication channels, including phone calls, written correspondence, and direct patient interactions, all while supporting the objectives of the Patient Accounting Department.

Key Responsibilities

Your daily activities as a Client Support Specialist will include:

  • Managing a high volume of inbound calls for self-pay accounts weekly.
  • Accurately verifying and updating patient information, including demographics and insurance details.
  • Providing timely resolutions to patient inquiries and independently researching solutions.
  • Reviewing insurance payments and ensuring accuracy in patient responsibility calculations.
  • Conducting financial screenings for patients with limited insurance coverage.
  • Offering financing options and developing payment plans for patients.
  • Understanding and addressing the diverse needs of our patient population.
  • Collaborating with the Department of Consumer Affairs to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Investigating billing discrepancies with relevant departments.
  • Assisting with state reporting and claims corrections.
  • Managing bankruptcy cases and referring to appropriate agencies.
  • Processing payments securely through our systems.
  • Ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations in all interactions.
  • Maintaining adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Working to minimize self-pay accounts receivable.
  • Meeting performance metrics related to productivity and quality assurance.
  • Exhibiting exceptional customer service skills, including empathy and active listening.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience in a customer service role.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent time management and decision-making abilities.
  • A commitment to providing a positive experience for patients.
  • Proficient computer skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or two years of college education.
  • Familiarity with the revenue cycle and patient financial services.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in billing or collections.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
