Role Summary: The Patient Care Technician plays a crucial role in supporting registered nurses in delivering high-quality patient care. This position encompasses a variety of essential functions aimed at ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients and verify identification by checking bracelets. Prepare patients for assessments, examinations, and procedures.
  • Collect blood samples from patients of all ages using sterile techniques, ensuring proper labeling and processing of specimens.
  • Conduct EKG tests as instructed, ensuring all equipment is functional and sanitized.
  • Assist in the transportation of patients to various departments as needed.
  • Support patients during meal times, providing assistance as required.
  • Monitor and replenish supplies in the assigned area, ensuring readiness for patient admissions.
  • Deliver direct hygiene and comfort care, including bathing, toileting, and oral hygiene.
  • Measure and record vital signs upon admission under the supervision of the RN, documenting findings accurately.
  • Perform glucose finger sticks and collect other specimens as directed.
  • Record daily patient weights and monitor intake and output.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients by responding promptly to call lights and communicating any changes in condition to the RN.
  • Recognize the diverse needs of the patient population and tailor care accordingly, considering factors such as age, culture, and language.
  • Engage with patients and their caregivers at an appropriate level of understanding.

Interactions: Regular engagement with medical staff, patients, and visitors.

Preferred Qualifications: Certification as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or completion of a Patient Care Technician program that includes Phlebotomy and EKG training, with at least one year of experience in a healthcare setting.

Required Certifications: Current BLS/CPR certification from a recognized provider.

Essential Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent.
