Job Description

Position Overview: The Financial Accounting Supervisor oversees the operations of the Accounting Division, ensuring that the organization's financial objectives are achieved. This role actively supports the mission, strategic initiatives, and core values of the Credit Union. The supervisor is involved in the creation of new financial products, policies, and procedures while ensuring the adherence to existing protocols. Additionally, this position provides training and support across various roles within the Accounting Division, guaranteeing exceptional service delivery to both members and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily functions of the department, including but not limited to: Accounts Payable, Investment Accounting, fixed asset management, wire transfers, daily reconciliations, and general ledger oversight.
  • Assist team members with challenges and allocate resources effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Procure necessary resources to fulfill all departmental responsibilities.
  • Establish and achieve departmental performance and operational goals. Monitor, document, and communicate progress toward these objectives.
  • Ensure that all staff members receive proper training, cross-training, and maintain required certifications.
  • Define roles and conduct performance evaluations for team members.
  • Oversee time and attendance records for accounting personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies within the department. Review and propose changes to departmental procedures and policies, and develop new processes for approval and implementation.
  • Maintain accounting software systems, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Fixed Assets.
  • Ensure timely and accurate maintenance of the general ledger and other financial records.
  • Execute month-end closing processes for the General Ledger.
  • Perform reconciliations on all General Ledger accounts to verify the accuracy of transaction reports and financial statements.
  • Generate various monthly and quarterly financial reports as required.
  • Oversee the Cash Management Program to ensure adequate liquidity for daily operations.
  • Act as Administrator for various accounting functions and software.
  • Ensure proper execution of ATM functions.
  • Maintain regular communication with other departments to gather and relay information or rectify transactions.
  • Conduct regular coaching sessions with direct reports and develop individual training and growth plans.
  • Keep senior management informed of departmental activities and any significant issues or challenges.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all member and employee-related matters.
  • Adhere to compliance requirements for all relevant federal regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering policies. Complete annual training as mandated.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • 5 years of accounting experience and 3 years of management experience in a financial institution preferred.
  • Familiarity with share draft, ACH, and deposit clearing processes.
  • Understanding of back-office banking operations.
  • Knowledge of NCUA, Federal Reserve Bank, and Payroll Reporting.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Experience in Banking or Credit Union environments is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform essential job functions in accordance with ADA, FMLA, and other applicable standards, including meeting productivity benchmarks.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
  • Must possess professional communication skills, particularly over the phone.
