Social Services Manager

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Benefit Programs Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our social services department, you will be responsible for providing administrative and programmatic supervision to staff, reviewing case management plans, and developing written guidelines for delivery of case management services.
Key Responsibilities- Provide administrative and programmatic supervision to staff, including training, leading, and developing staff members.
- Review case management plans to ensure quality assurance of case management services.
- Develop written guidelines for delivery of case management services, including caseload assignments and coordination of staff activities.
- Hold individual and group conferences to review cases and problems, and recommend indicated action.
- Review case records and evaluate performance of staff members, recommending corrective action as needed.
- Represent staff needs to senior management team, and prepare and implement internal operating policies and procedures.
- Interpret regulation, policy, and other program information changes to staff, and train new employees in areas such as agency policy, department procedures, and agency or government regulations.
- Determine staffing needs and make recommendations to management, and maintain records and prepare regular and special reports.
- Participate in developing and implementing agency administrative policy, and make decisions on controversial cases or present them for higher level action.
- Authorize emergency assistance for applicants/recipients, and serve in a liaison capacity to other agencies and groups.
- Monitor program expenditures, and meet with community groups to discuss programs and resources, and develop/maintain cooperative relationships with public and private entities.
- Bachelor's degree in the human services field, and human services program experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
- Considerable knowledge of current social, economic, and health issues and trends, principles and practices of effective supervision, public assistance programs, policies, and regulations, and effective interviewing techniques.
- Working knowledge of computer systems and standard office software, including the state Department of Social Services human services systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others, work independently, plan and manage work effectively, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, interpret laws, policies, and regulations, and make decisions based thereon.
- Master's degree in the human services field, and human services program experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
- Experience working in a social services department, and knowledge of state and federal regulations related to public assistance programs.
