This is a challenging opportunity for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Research Professional II - Parasite Production and Maintenance. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and conducting independent research projects, assisting in maintaining the life cycles of mosquitoes and filariae, and coordinating and preparing shipments of filarial materials to researchers.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and conduct independent research projects
- Assist in maintaining the life cycles of mosquitoes and filariae
- Coordinate and prepare shipments of filarial materials to researchers
- Perform laboratory maintenance, including cleaning and sterilizing glassware and equipment, stocking and ordering supplies
- Restrain, handle, and bleed laboratory rodents, dogs, and cats
- Perform periodic duties, including external training coordination, maintaining animal inventory records, and cross-training on other laboratory procedures
- Technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate
- Manual dexterity
- Previous laboratory animal, parasitology/entomology experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs and Graph Pad Prism
- Experience using a microscope/dissecting scope
- Previous management of filarial life cycles
- Knowledge of larval migration inhibition assay
- Extensive knowledge of experimental design of both in vivo and in vitro experiments with filarial parasites
