Position Summary

Versar, Inc. is looking for a talented Security Architect specializing in Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) to enhance the security posture of the Department of Homeland Security's Homeland Security Enterprise Network (HSEN). This role is integral to the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), specifically within the IT Operations and Enterprise Engineering Division (EED). The selected candidate will collaborate with a dynamic team of network and security engineers, data center experts, and various stakeholders to fortify HSEN and safeguard its data.

The primary focus of this position is to oversee and advance the current DHS SIEM and SOAR solutions, while also leading the evaluation, integration, and testing of new security technologies and tools.

This position allows for full-time remote work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and sustain SIEM and SOAR solutions through effective collaboration with the Network Operations Security Center – Cyber (NOSC-Cyber) and other essential stakeholders.
  • Partner with network and security engineers as well as cloud development teams to enhance security requirements.
  • Investigate the latest advancements in SIEM and SOAR platforms and IT technologies (including firewalls, operating systems, networks, storage, virtualization, Active Directory, Intrusion Prevention Systems, Proxies, etc.) and present findings to management.
  • Refine the architecture of SIEM, SOAR, and NOSC-Cyber to boost the efficiency and effectiveness of these platforms and processes.
  • Design and implement threat detection mechanisms, automate incident response workflows, and integrate various security tools with SIEM and SOAR platforms using APIs.
  • Manage SIEM applications to collect and consolidate data from Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), network sensors, collection agents, firewalls, proxy servers, Data Loss Prevention (DLP) systems, antivirus solutions, vulnerability scanners, and other security-relevant devices.
  • Create and document the existing production Swimlane environment, including Visio diagrams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of six (6) years of professional experience in cybersecurity, Network Operations Center (NOC)/Security Operations Center (SOC) environments, and IT services, focusing on incident response.
  • Proven experience with SIEM and SOAR tool suites, particularly with Swimlane and Splunk.
  • Demonstrated expertise in endpoint security, network security (including Firewalls, IPS/IDS, DNS, Proxy, etc.), data and application security, and cloud security technologies.
  • Ability to adapt and learn within a complex and rapidly evolving network environment.
  • Self-motivated, capable of working independently, and skilled in time management.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Effective communication skills across all organizational levels, including engineering, operations, and management.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, along with eligibility for a DHS Entry on Duty (EOD) to be considered for this role.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
