We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Instructional Assistant - English Language Learner to join our team at Poway Unified School District. As an Instructional Assistant - English Language Learner, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic success of English Language Learner students.
Key Responsibilities- Assist certificated instructional personnel in developing and reinforcing curriculum, courses of study, and lesson plans for English Language Learner students.
- Present instructional materials and academic instruction to individuals or small groups of students, assisting them in reviewing homework assignments and test results.
- Communicate with students in English to provide direct instruction in oral language development, reading, and writing, reinforcing classroom instruction in support of other curricular areas and performing appropriate follow-up activities.
- Administer language assessments for identification and reclassification of English Language Learner students, coordinating and conducting test assessment activities and timelines, collecting and organizing student language information from schools and districts to appropriately place in language programs.
- Prepare and maintain student records and files, reporting and maintaining files on student performance progress.
- Perform a variety of clerical duties, such as recording grades, assembling materials, preparing charts, taking roll, maintaining records and files, and typing and duplicating classroom materials.
- Operate audio-visual equipment, general office equipment, and other instructional equipment, operating a computer to update student information as assigned.
- Utilize and assist in the preparation of instructional and visual aids, including posters, books, displays, exhibits, games, and manipulatives.
- Confer with English Language Learner coordinators and teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs, attending meetings and in-service training related to methods, techniques, and curriculum or student-related issues of the English Language Learner program as required.
- Provide information and explanation about program activities to parents, personnel, and related individuals as required.
- Passage of the PUSD examination for this classification and one year of experience working with children in an organized setting.
- Some experience working with people of various cultures.
- Knowledge of instructional methods and techniques.
- Child guidance principles and practices.
- Positive behavior reinforcement techniques.
- District and State testing requirements, rules, and regulations.
- Basic subjects taught in the District schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, and reading.
- Safe practices in classroom and playground activities.
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary at a level to serve as an English language model.
- Reading, writing, and oral communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Basic computer operation.
- Basic record-keeping techniques.
- Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct.
- Operation of office, instructional, and audio-visual equipment.
Indoor working environment.

Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to assist students.
