Position Overview


The role of the Instructional Support Specialist for the Adult Transition Program is designed to deliver, under the guidance of a designated supervisor, a range of educational and assistance services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position focuses on enhancing the transition from school to career, with key responsibilities including support in instruction, behavior management, and oversight of students.


Qualifications and Skills

Essential Experience:
A minimum of two years of experience working with students across various age groups in specialized educational settings.

Educational Background:
High school diploma or its equivalent.

Equivalency Options:

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent and meet one of the following criteria: 1) completion of at least two years of higher education (minimum 48 semester hours); 2) possession of an associate's degree or higher; or 3) successful completion of the District's local assessment demonstrating proficiency in assisting with instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics at a level that meets state and federal standards.

Required skills include the ability to perform multiple tasks and adapt to evolving job requirements.

Specific competencies necessary for effective job performance include:

adherence to safety protocols; proficiency in operating standard office equipment and relevant software applications; application of assessment tools; accurate record-keeping; data analysis; and effective communication.

Knowledge required encompasses basic mathematics, including calculations with fractions, percentages, and ratios; the ability to read various manuals, write documents in prescribed formats, and present information clearly; and problem-solving skills.

Specific knowledge competencies essential for fulfilling job responsibilities include:

instructional methodologies; age-appropriate activities for students; safety regulations; conflict resolution techniques; child development stages; principles related to special education; workplace safety practices; correct usage of English grammar, spelling, and vocabulary; record-keeping methods; modern office procedures; assessment techniques; health standards; community resource awareness; instructional methods; and safety protocols within educational environments.


Additional Information

Note:
This recruitment is aimed at establishing a pool of qualified candidates for potential instructional support roles. All eligible candidates will be placed on an Eligibility List for a specified duration. This position is structured for a 9.5-month duration.

Candidates holding a valid and current teaching credential will be positioned at a higher step within the designated salary range for this classification.
