Position Overview:
This recruitment is aimed at filling positions for both Instructional Assistant I & II within the Special Education sector, including substitute and contracted roles. Qualified candidates will be placed on an Eligibility List for a duration of 6 months.
Position Duration: 9.5 months
Compensation: Candidates with a valid and current CA teaching credential will be placed at Step 6 of the designated salary range for this classification.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Assistant I - Special Education
Under the supervision of an assigned leader, provide educational support and assistance to educators and students involved in a designated special education program. This includes programs such as Special Day Class (SDC), Resource Specialist Program (RSP), Adapted Physical Education (APE), Inclusion, and Designated Hard of Hearing (DHH). Responsibilities include:
1. Assisting in the preparation of instructional materials and learning aids.
2. Supporting students in completing assignments and projects across various subjects.
3. Reinforcing learning for students with disabilities and behavioral challenges.
4. Monitoring student behavior and reporting on their progress.
5. Performing clerical tasks related to classroom activities.
Instructional Assistant II - Special Education
Under the guidance of a certified teacher, assist in delivering instruction to individuals or groups of students in critical skills special education programs. Responsibilities include:
1. Supporting the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
2. Assisting with personal care needs for students requiring additional support.
3. Maintaining student records and confidentiality in accordance with established guidelines.
4. Participating in training and staff meetings as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Instructional Assistant I: Successful completion of the PUSD examination for this classification.
Instructional Assistant II: Valid certifications in First Aid, Adult/Child CPR, and AED must be obtained within the first six months of employment or submitted at the time of application. Only certifications from recognized providers will be accepted.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
1. Understanding of child guidance principles related to special education needs.
2. Familiarity with basic subjects taught in district schools.
3. Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
4. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Working Conditions:
Indoor and outdoor working environments with physical demands including lifting and assisting students. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and physical injury from aggressive behavior may occur.
