Overview of the Role
Under the guidance of the Vice President for Medical Affairs, this position is pivotal in enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the Patient Safety Program at MedStar Health. The role involves cultivating strong partnerships with key hospital leaders to align safety initiatives with organizational needs. Utilizing industry best practices, the manager will assess, redesign, and implement various components of the Safety Program, ensuring that resources are secured for ongoing operations. Continuous feedback from stakeholders at both local and system levels will be integral to the process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the VPMA to develop and execute a comprehensive patient safety strategic plan, emphasizing safety reporting, psychological safety, and just culture.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental goals, policies, and quality standards while adhering to regulatory requirements.
  • Foster relationships with clinical and operational leaders to enhance safety program effectiveness.
  • Lead task forces to coordinate safety improvement initiatives across the organization.
  • Oversee the integration of various safety programs, ensuring cohesive operational planning and management.
  • Identify opportunities for safety performance enhancements and initiate improvement projects.
  • Incorporate insights from Safety and Risk Management teams into safety initiatives to maximize expertise.
  • Manage the development and review of policies and procedures, maintaining oversight of project dashboards and safety challenges.
  • Prepare detailed safety reports and data analyses for key stakeholders.
  • Engage in community outreach and represent the organization in various meetings and committees.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary quality improvement teams.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Education
  • Master's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • Relevant education may substitute for required work experience.
Experience
  • 3-4 years of clinical and/or safety experience preferred.
  • Professional-level work experience may substitute for required education.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current RN license required upon hire.
Skills and Competencies
