Position Overview: Under the general oversight of the Vice President for Medical Affairs (VPMA), this role is pivotal in shaping, executing, and enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the Safety Program at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. The position requires the establishment of robust collaborative relationships with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), and other key leaders to align with their operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize best practice frameworks to assess, redesign, or create and implement essential components of the Safety Program.
- Post-implementation, secure necessary resources to maintain efficient and effective operations, while actively seeking feedback from stakeholders at both local and system levels.
- Identify and establish metrics and processes to ensure critical aspects of the Safety Program are consistently measured, monitored, and improved.
- Develop strong partnerships with key stakeholders across the MedStar system and local Safety programs, as well as Risk Management teams.
- Collaborate with the VPMA to formulate and operationalize a comprehensive patient safety strategic plan, emphasizing safety reporting, psychological safety, just culture, and systems-based event reviews.
- Contribute to achieving departmental goals and objectives while adhering to established policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and governmental regulations.
- Build relationships with various departments to enhance safety, clinical operations, and proposed improvements.
- Facilitate task forces or councils to coordinate safety improvement initiatives.
- Oversee the integration and teamwork of diverse safety programs within the organization.
- Identify opportunities for safety performance enhancement initiatives.
- Incorporate insights from system Safety and Risk Management teams into safety initiatives.
- Manage the development and review of policies and procedures, and oversee operational dashboards for ongoing projects and safety challenges.
- Drive change by establishing standardized processes to resolve issues and achieve departmental goals.
- Prepare and analyze safety reports for the VPMA and other stakeholders.
- Engage in local and system-level meetings and committees, representing the organization in community outreach efforts.
- Participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Nursing preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
- Relevant education may substitute for work experience.
- 3-4 years of clinical and/or safety experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and planning abilities.
- Proficient in various computer software applications.
This role is essential for fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement within MedStar Health.
