Job Overview

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead and manage all financial operations of the organization. The CFO will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy and ensuring the fiscal health of the Authority.

Key Responsibilities

The CFO will:

  1. Leadership: Supervise and mentor the finance team, ensuring high standards of performance and adherence to policies.
  2. Financial Management: Oversee all financial accounting activities, ensuring compliance with regulations and accurate reporting.
  3. Policy Development: Formulate and recommend financial policies to the CEO and Board, ensuring long-term fiscal sustainability.
  4. Compliance: Ensure all accounting practices align with governmental standards and generally accepted accounting principles.
  5. Strategic Support: Assist the CEO in achieving financial objectives and provide insights for strategic planning.
  6. Pension Oversight: Manage employee pension and benefit plans, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
  7. Audit Coordination: Lead the preparation of financial reports and audits, collaborating with external auditors.
  8. Budget Preparation: Direct the development of annual operating and capital budgets.
  9. Grant Management: Pursue funding opportunities and maintain knowledge of industry funding sources.
  10. Financial Reporting: Prepare comprehensive financial reports for the Board and executive team.
  11. Internal Controls: Establish effective internal controls to protect the Authority's assets.
  12. Policy Implementation: Develop and implement departmental policies and objectives.
  13. Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain transparent communication with the Board and external stakeholders.
  14. Continuous Improvement: Stay informed on industry trends and best practices in financial management.
Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, with significant experience in government or transportation sectors.
  • Experience in financial statement preparation and budget management.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • A Master's degree in a relevant field.
