The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) is seeking an experienced Area Vice President to join our State & Policy Affairs Department. This role is crucial in representing and advocating for the interests of our members while striving to meet the advocacy objectives of the association.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and implement issue management strategies for specific advocacy priorities in designated states.
- Establish and nurture collaborative relationships with state insurance trade associations, influential state legislators, state insurance department personnel, and relevant non-insurance stakeholders.
- Manage advocacy communications with member companies, ensuring timely updates on NAMIC's strategic goals and addressing member inquiries effectively.
- Prepare and present testimony, press releases, speeches, commentary, and NAMIC publications as required.
- Encourage member engagement in NAMIC's Congressional Contact Program and the NAMIC PAC.
- Generate regular updates for management reports in assigned areas.
- Exercise fiscal responsibility in managing the NAMIC budget for the relevant states.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of three years of experience in a government affairs role, legislative environment (as staff or lobbyist with direct interaction with legislators), or within a trade association is preferred.
- Proven experience in issue management is essential.
- A Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Familiarity with organizations such as NCOIL, NCSL, ALEC, NAIC, and others that influence state insurance laws and regulations is advantageous.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time during peak periods.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
