Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Junior Financial Analyst offers essential financial support to the programs at Opportunity Council. This role involves collaboration with fiscal and program directors, as well as financial staff, to establish and uphold reporting frameworks for effective planning and monitoring of financial performance.

The analyst is responsible for maintaining and entering program budgets into Intacct, ensuring accurate programmatic and organizational reporting. This position also involves calculating and providing financial data to assist with contract renewals and submissions. The analyst will aid in reviewing permissible expenses for grants, preparing monthly invoices, and managing grant closures. Additionally, the role includes participation in special projects aimed at developing systems in emerging areas of the organization or enhancing existing operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develops, maintains, and delivers regularly scheduled and on-demand reports to support program managers and directors.

2. Prepares monthly billing statements for funding sources while analyzing grant expenditure progress and accounts receivable.

3. Inputs and maintains program budgets in Intacct to support comprehensive programmatic and organizational reporting.

4. Collaborates with program directors to create internal systems that provide necessary statistical data for management planning.

5. Ensures accurate coding of contract expenses in coordination with agency fiscal and program staff.

6. Assists program directors in preparing budgets for contract renewals and grant applications.

7. Provides support during program reviews and evaluations.

8. Conducts grant closures at the end of grant periods, including final invoicing, reporting, and general ledger adjustments.

9. Reviews labor and accounts payable distribution reports to confirm proper expense coding to grants and contracts.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

1. Participates in staff training and meetings as required.

2. Engages in special projects aimed at developing systems in new areas of agency focus or improving existing operations.

3. Performs other related tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. A Bachelor's Degree in accounting or a related discipline.

2. Experience in the nonprofit sector is preferred.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

1. Strong communication and negotiation skills; frequently engages in discussions regarding confidential and complex activities significant to departmental operations with management and various funding agencies.

2. Ability to provide guidance and technical direction on significant issues; regularly advises agency directors and managers, requiring broad analytical skills and strategic planning capabilities.

3. Innovative thinking; regularly develops complex methods, procedures, or systems.

4. Excellent time management and organizational skills.

5. Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure, producing accurate information and reports promptly.

6. Proficient in computer skills, including advanced Excel, ABRA (payroll software), and Intacct (financial software); capable of understanding system operations, creating accurate reporting tools, and analyzing generated data.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is performed in a dynamic office setting with frequent interruptions and occasional urgent situations. The role may require attending local and statewide meetings. The majority of responsibilities focus on client services and procedures that necessitate a high degree of confidentiality, tact, and respect for clients from diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds. All duties are carried out while adhering to current safety guidelines.
