Job Summary

The Porter is a vital member of our housekeeping team, responsible for providing support to housekeepers with trash removal, supply distribution, and heavy cleaning projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Carry out special project cleaning tasks as assigned, including carpet shampooing, floor scrubbing, and power washing of sidewalks and parking areas.
  2. Participate in bi-annual deep cleaning of resident suites, including cleaning under and behind furniture, blinds, and closet areas.
  3. Complete work requests for items requiring repair in resident suites and common areas.
  4. Clean common areas as assigned, including corridors, restrooms, offices, break rooms, lounges, and storage areas.
  5. Maintain equipment and work areas in organized, clean, and like-new condition.
  6. Attend training courses and participate in professional development activities as required.

Requirements:

  1. Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team-based environment.
  2. Strong time management and organizational skills.
  3. Ability to read and write English, and follow verbal and written instructions.
  4. Must be in good health, physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks.
  5. Demonstrates freedom from pulmonary tuberculosis by a health screening performed by a physician not more than 6 months prior to or 7 days after employment.
  6. Must be cleared in a criminal background check administered in the state of Virginia.
  7. Experience in a similar position is preferred.

Mental and Physical Requirements:

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  2. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms above, below, and at shoulder height.
  3. The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Must be able to push a minimum of 200 pounds and be able to push such weight a minimum distance of 200 feet.
  4. May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during an emergency.
  5. Work area may be subject to noise, distractions, and interruptions. Ability to remain calm and positive in stressful situations is required.
