Position Overview

The Commercial Credit Analyst is tasked with conducting both quantitative and qualitative evaluations of applicants seeking commercial financing. The individual will examine the character, capacity, capital, collateral, and conditions surrounding loan applications, and will prepare comprehensive credit proposal packages that recommend suitable products and loan structures to mitigate credit risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate the financial health of clients.
  • Support the loan package process from initial underwriting through to final approval and transition to the closing team.
  • Provide credit recommendations based on analytical findings.
  • Assist relationship managers in preparing presentations for loan committees.
  • Reduce risk by defining appropriate credit terms and conditions.
  • Analyze payment behaviors of clients who are overdue on their obligations and suggest corrective actions.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and foster relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including vendors and centers of influence.
  • Engage in departmental projects and actively participate in cross-functional teams aimed at enhancing quality, processes, and initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with credit administration and other departments within the bank.
  • Draft loan write-ups for new loans and renewals.
  • Request necessary reports such as Credit Bureau reports, appraisals, environmental assessments, and Dun & Bradstreet reports.
  • Prepare memos regarding changes in approvals and other relevant matters.
  • Draft commitment letters for newly sanctioned loans.
  • Mentor junior credit analysts.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Contribute to process enhancement initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in executing job responsibilities are essential.
  • Ability to conduct in-depth analysis and apply logical reasoning to complex data and information.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience in credit administration.
  • Five to eight years of experience within a commercial loan department of a financial institution.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Intermediate understanding of credit underwriting principles.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting, finance, and economic principles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • High-level reasoning skills, capable of defining problems, gathering data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial statements, collateral, cash flow, projections, personal financial statements, tax returns, and various balance sheet and income statement ratios.
  • Competence in performing calculations involving discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages, as well as applying basic algebra concepts.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal documents, government regulations, and professional publications.
  • Capability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from various stakeholders.
  • Proficient in writing reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods, up to 75% of the workday.
  • Ability to use hands for grasping, handling, or feeling.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and system for data entry and information processing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through speaking, hearing, and seeing.
  • Ability to utilize office equipment such as computers, telephones, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
