Job Description

Unity Bank is seeking a skilled Consumer Loan Underwriter to join our team in New Jersey. As a Consumer Loan Underwriter, you will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing construction and consumer loan applications to ensure compliance with industry guidelines and bank policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review credit, income, asset, property, and project documentation from consumers to ensure compliance with all bank policy and underwriting guidelines.
  • Process construction and consumer loan applications efficiently, including underwriting and loan documentation.
  • Assist management during the processing of both consumer and construction loans as needed.
  • Monitor loan turnaround time and communicate with mortgage sales and operations staff to maintain high customer service levels.
  • Support the branch network by communicating loan status, policy, procedures, and products.
  • Work closely with loan production officers and bank department managers and staff to promote open and effective communication and quality service delivery to customers.
  • Communicate with management on a loan-by-loan basis to recommend exceptions to policy.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all industry and bank policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Four-year college degree preferred.
  • Three years of residential or consumer underwriting experience required.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices to ascertain and assess customer needs, meet quality standards of customer service, and evaluate customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of economic, accounting, and finance principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Expert knowledge of credit underwriting concepts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from senior management, vendors, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate sound as in a business office with office machines, computers, and people traffic.
