Empower Young Minds in STEM

Role: Girlstart After School Program Facilitator

Reports To: Program Coordinator

Classification: Paid, Part-Time, 5-8 hours/week

About Girlstart

Established in 1997, Girlstart is dedicated to fostering girls' enthusiasm and participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through engaging, innovative educational programs. Our year-round initiatives motivate girls to make a difference in the world. These initiatives encompass after school programs, summer camps, community STEM events, and an annual conference for girls.

Position Summary

Girlstart is looking for several After School Program Facilitators (referred to as STEM CREW -- Creative, Resourceful, Empowered Workforce) to lead dynamic, hands-on, STEM-oriented after school sessions in North Texas, particularly within designated school districts. Our after school programs occur weekly for an hour (with variations from 1-1.5 hours) right after the school day ends. The goal of our program is to offer 20-25 girls an enjoyable, complimentary STEM enrichment experience that boosts their confidence and encourages them to explore higher education and career opportunities. This role provides a fulfilling chance to engage directly with 4th-5th grade girls, empowering them through STEM activities.

Program facilitators will receive training from program coordinators/managers and will report to the North Texas Senior Program Coordinator for information regarding after school clubs, office hours, and additional responsibilities.

Commitment & Schedule

We prefer that After School Program Facilitators are available two afternoons a week (Monday through Thursday, with limited options on Fridays) to lead two programs. Potential candidates should be available around 2 PM on program days; sessions typically run from 3:00-4:00 PM at various elementary schools.

Girlstart's After School Program Facilitator commitment is 5-8 hours/week. Leading two after school programs entails approximately a 6-hour weekly commitment, which includes lesson preparation, travel to the location, conducting the activity, and cleanup. In addition to the 6 hours, facilitators are encouraged to allocate 1-2 office hours for practice, material organization, and inquiries regarding activities or classroom management. Office hours are held weekly at Girlstart's North Texas office.

Mandatory ongoing training will be provided throughout the duration of the position.

  • Enhance leadership and teamwork abilities
  • Develop presentation and communication skills

  • Passion for empowering and educating girls in STEM
  • Reliable transportation (or valid driver's license for at least one year) is necessary for travel to respective programs
  • Comfortable presenting to groups of girls
