About Girlstart
Established in 1997, Girlstart is dedicated to fostering girls' enthusiasm and participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through engaging, nationally recognized informal education initiatives. Our year-round offerings inspire girls to make a difference in the world. These initiatives encompass after school programs, week-long summer camps, community STEM events, and an annual conference for girls.
Role Responsibilities
Girlstart is in search of multiple After School Program Facilitators (known as STEM CREW -- Creative, Resourceful, Empowered Workforce) to guide our interactive, hands-on, STEM-oriented after school programs in North Texas, particularly within designated school districts. Our after school sessions occur weekly for one hour (with variations between 1-1.5 hours) immediately following the school day. The goal of our after school initiative is to offer 20-25 girls an enjoyable, complimentary STEM enrichment experience that boosts their confidence and motivates them to pursue higher education and explore broader career pathways. This role presents a fulfilling opportunity to engage directly with 4th-5th grade girls, empowering them through science, technology, engineering, and math activities.
Program facilitators will receive training from program coordinators/managers. North Texas Program Facilitators will also report to the North Texas Senior Program Coordinator for guidance regarding after school clubs, office hours, and additional opportunities.
Commitment & Schedule
We prefer After School Program Facilitators to be available two afternoons a week (Monday through Thursday, with limited options on Fridays) to lead two programs. Potential candidates should be available around 2 PM on program days; sessions typically run from 3:00-4:00 PM at the respective elementary schools.
Girlstart's After School Program Facilitator commitment is 5-8 hours/week. Leading two after school programs entails approximately a 6-hour weekly commitment, which includes lesson preparation, travel to the location, conducting the activity, and cleanup. In addition to the 6 hours, facilitators are encouraged to allocate 1-2 office hours for practice, material organization, and inquiries regarding the activities and classroom management. Office hours are held once a week at Girlstart's North Texas office.
Ongoing mandatory training will be provided throughout the duration of the position.
