Job Overview

Position Summary

The Senior Commercial Banking Officer is responsible for cultivating and overseeing relationships with businesses generating annual revenues between $10 million and $35 million. This role entails offering a diverse range of commercial lending products and services tailored to the intricate needs of clients, with an emphasis on commercial banking solutions, deposit accounts, treasury management, and lending prospects. The officer plays a crucial role in enhancing the bank's growth and profitability by increasing deposits and delivering additional financial services through direct engagement or cross-selling initiatives; also, referring potential clients to Synovus partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversees a designated portfolio, ensuring the retention and enhancement of existing relationships while focusing on commercial banking solutions, deposits, treasury management, and lending opportunities. Achieves and surpasses sales targets related to deposits, loans, fee income, and referrals.
  • Fosters new and existing client relationships through networking, cross-selling initiatives, and referrals to and from business product partners within the organization. Establishes and maintains a robust referral network to attract new client relationships, particularly with more complex businesses.
  • Collaborates with branch management and acts as the primary liaison for business clients. Serves as the commercial banking authority for a specific branch or a group of branches.
  • May facilitate SBA loans by proactively building and nurturing internal and external relationships.
  • Actively manages client relationships by identifying financial requirements, providing solutions to meet those needs, and ensuring exceptional customer service.
  • Evaluates applicant financial information to assess creditworthiness and navigates challenging credit scenarios.
  • Negotiates loan terms and makes decisions within established limits or provides recommendations. Monitors outstanding loans to ensure continued creditworthiness.
  • Represents Synovus in the community by engaging in local organizations, participating in chambers of commerce, and taking part in relevant leadership activities.
  • Complies with established loan policies and procedures. Works with the commercial credit approval process to guarantee that underwriting and credit quality standards are upheld.
  • Utilizes professional expertise, experience, and analytical criteria to make informed decisions and resolve issues; operates independently to determine methods and procedures for new assignments.
  • May mentor, train, assign tasks, and review the work of junior team members.
  • Each team member is expected to recognize risks within their functional area, adhering to all policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and risk limits specific to their role. They should promptly report any known or suspected violations to the appropriate company authority.
  • Performs additional related duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
  • A minimum of six (6) years of relevant work experience, including sourcing new business, managing complex loan portfolios, navigating difficult credit situations, and maintaining customer relationships.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Exceptional sales and advisory capabilities.
  • Proven credit assessment skills.
  • In-depth understanding of lending guidelines and loan requirements.
  • Strong business development and networking skills.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence outcomes in a professional and effective manner.
