Duke University Health System is looking to recruit a Clinical Nurse II for our Cardiothoracic Operating Room Unit, who will uphold our mission of Transforming Lives Transforming Care.

The Cardiothoracic Unit at Magnet-designated Duke University Hospital offers outstanding opportunities for CTOR RNs to collaborate within our interdisciplinary team.

With a total of 57 operating rooms, 18 surgeons, and a diverse team of PAs, RNs, Surgical Technologists, Anesthesia Technicians, Surgical Attendants, and Perfusionists, we conduct a variety of procedures on patients across all age groups, including:

  • Valvular surgeries

Our team is also tasked with managing all pediatric and adult ECMOs throughout the facility, as well as pediatric chest washouts, closures, PDAs, and open chest codes for adults.

Preferred Qualifications:

One year of experience in an operating room setting is preferred; Duke North/DMP Surgical Services encompasses eight specialties, providing new and exciting opportunities in both adult and pediatric care utilizing the latest technological advancements, including two intraoperative MRI suites and two intraoperative CT suites.

Our Eye Center operating rooms deliver highly specialized surgical care across all ophthalmology fields, including glaucoma/corneal transplant, cataracts, vitreo-retinal, neuro-ophthalmology, and pediatrics.

As a Clinical Nurse with Duke University Health System, your focus will be on delivering care while considering the holistic needs of the patient in a patient-centered environment.

The Clinical Nurse (RN) is responsible for both direct and indirect nursing care duties. By applying the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating), you will help achieve the objectives of the nursing department.

Plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients guided by the DUHS Professional Practice model, and participate in the clinical ladder program, educational initiatives, departmental committees, research projects, or other health-related assignments as needed.

Deliver nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Comply with all regulations and standards set forth by applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

Previous experience (1+ years) as a clinical nurse is preferred; at least one year of prior experience as a registered nurse is required for a CN2 role.

  • A degree from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program is mandatory.

All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and complete the program within five years of their start date.
