Primary Purpose of Position
The Athletic Fields Maintenance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the upkeep of the university's athletic facilities, creating a conducive environment for sports and recreational activities. This role focuses on the maintenance of sports fields and adjacent areas, ensuring they meet NCAA standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance tasks associated with NCAA sports fields, including line painting and clay infield work.
  • Apply herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and fertilizers, requiring a foundational understanding of horticultural practices.
  • Manage litter control, weed management, trimming, and pruning of vegetation.
  • Oversee erosion repair and maintenance of drainage systems, including snow and ice removal from pathways.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of groundskeeping practices and the ability to perform physical tasks.
  • Two years of relevant experience in grounds maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in turf management, particularly in sports fields.

Essential Duties
The Athletic Fields Maintenance Specialist operates under the guidance of the Grounds Supervisor, executing various maintenance procedures.

Daily Responsibilities Include:
  • Tractor operation, mowing, seeding, and fertilizing.
  • Installation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
  • Application of pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Use of hand tools and power equipment for grounds maintenance.

Additional Requirements
Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible for necessary certifications. Candidates should demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities to perform essential job functions with or without accommodations.
