Primary Purpose of Position
The Athletic Fields Maintenance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the upkeep of university sports facilities, creating a conducive environment for both learning and athletic activities. This role focuses on maintaining the sports fields and adjacent areas to support the university's athletic programs.
Key Responsibilities
The technician will engage in various maintenance tasks related to NCAA sports fields, including:
- Line painting and clay infield work
- Application of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and fertilizers
- Litter control and weed management
- Trimming undergrowth and pruning trees
- Repairing erosion and maintaining drainage systems
- Snow and ice removal from walkways and steps
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance procedures, ability to follow instructions, and perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience, with at least two (2) years of relevant grounds experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, with three (3) years of related grounds experience preferred.
Essential Job Duties
The Athletic Fields Maintenance Specialist will work under the supervision of the Grounds Supervisor and will be responsible for:
- Performing maintenance procedures associated with NCAA division one sports fields
- Supporting general grounds maintenance tasks
- Ensuring university facilities are well-maintained
Daily Responsibilities
Daily tasks may include:
- Litter control and tractor operation
- Weed eating, edging, and blowing
- Mowing, seeding, and fertilizing
- Installation and maintenance of irrigation systems
- Pruning and pesticide application
- Operating various grounds maintenance equipment
Preferred Experience and Skills
Candidates with the following qualifications are preferred:
- Three or more years of experience in professional turf-grass maintenance
- Experience in marking and painting sports fields
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining reel mowers
- Experience with heavy grounds machinery
- Advanced plant care techniques
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess or be eligible for necessary certifications. A valid driver's license is required.
